Microsoft wows CES with its tablet devices. Not!

Steve Ballmer did not unveil the rumored Microsoft Courier Tablet PC at the 2010 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. Instead, Balmer revealed an HP tablet PC they are calling the “Slate”.

As many were expecting Microsoft to introduce the rumored dual-screen Courrier tablet by HP, there was much disappointment when instead Balmer showed off what is basically a color e-reader running Windows 7. Microsoft’s CEO also briefly talked about two other similar tablets from Archos, built for multimedia and an other by Pegatron intended for reading newspapers and magazines.

Overall, the products presented by Ballmer where nothing more than pretty casings running Windows 7. No surprise here.
