Apple iPad does not have a camera… or does it ?

A few weeks ago, The Tablet Blog reported about John Gruber’s assumptions that the Apple iPad would not have a camera. Still many of us were disappointed when Steve Job’s mentioned nothing of a camera on the device at the time of it’s announcement last week. However, there is new evidence that suggests that the Apple iPad may be getting a frontal camera, if not on this version, then definitely on a future release.

Stemming from multiple sources, this rumor started when Mission Repair, an Apple product repair company reported they received a shipment of iPad frames with an opening for a camera lens.

To add the icing on the cake, screen captures taken of the iPad OS emulator in the new SDK show that it gives the user an option to “Chose Existing Picture” or “Take Photo” in the contacts menu. That sure sounds to me like the iPad thinks it has a camera.

Could these rumors be true or is this just the Apple rumor mill ridding the wave of the iPad’s release. Please respond in the comments.
