Durring a recent visit to the MIT campus, Boston Globe columnist Lawrence Harmon caught up with Bill Gates for an interview. During this brief session, the obviously-uncomfortable Gates was asked about the success of the iPad. Gates immediately steers away from the question by blabbing something about Windows Tablet PC and saying its “not my full-time work at this point”. Harmon then asks him directly if he’s played with the iPad and what his impressions are on the device. His response: “No comment”.
It’s been interesting to see Microsoft executives talk about Apple innovations these last few years. They always seem to shoot themselves in the foot in their responses, obviously envious of the successes of their competitor. My personal opinion is that if they were to take a more modest and congratulatory stand in their opinions, they might manage to pass off less as complete fools every time a reporter asks them about Apple products.
