Apple have claimed that the reason the iPad’s release in Europe has been delayed until the end of May is due to larger than expected demand from the US. Yet with release dates yet to be announced for many further flung countries, such as South Africa and New Zealand, it has been suggested the problem is instead with Apple’s own supply chain.
Analyists have stated that the real reason for the delays may in fact be due to production delays and supply issues with partners in the far east. This has caused the current shortage of units that the company is experiencing and may have a knock on effect for potential sales.
It won’t be long before other companies, such as Google and HP, release their competing tablet devices and despite the iPad’s impressive spec’s, it may find the playing field far more level than many have anticipated. Both soon-to-be-released tablets share more in common with a laptop than a smartphone and the added computing power may sway many potential users.
