HP Slate project cancelled

Following the announcement a few days ago that Microsoft had axed their Courier project it has also been rumored that HP have cancelled their own more promising Slate project.

An unidentified source from within HP stated that the project had been axed following unfavourable responses to the devices interface.

The Slate which was announced in January at CES was due to run on Microsoft’s Windows 7 Platform, the same as the now cancelled Courier.

Although HP have cancelled the Slate they are believed to still be working on a smaller, Android based tablet device and following the acquisition of Palm, a WebOS based tablet device.

With another potential competitor out of the running the iPad seems set to corner the Tablet market. The HP Slate was by far the most promising tablet device to be demoed so far.

The iPad’s only real competitor, the Joojoo, has only sold a few hundred units, a far cry from the iPads’ hundreds of thousands.
