WePad changes name to WeTab to “differentiate” from other tablets

The German tablet WePad will no longer exist under that name. The tablet will now be refereed to to as the WeTab.

The company said it changed the name to “clearly differentiate” it’s product from other tablets on the market. Good move since it seems as though every tablet being released now has “pad” in its name.

WePad changes its name to WeTab

The WeTab tablet is an open source iPad alternative which will run on open software and compares quite favorably to the iPad. Supporting multiple development platform such as Flash, Java and Abode Air, the WeTab will also have a front facing 1.3 megapixel camera. Running on a 1.66 GHz Intel Atom N450 processor, the tablet will be available in both Wifi and 3G models.

With deliveries set to start in june, the 16GB WiFi-only model will cost €449 ($573) while the 32GB version (which has WiFi, 3G, GPS and 1080p out via HDMI) will cost €569 ($726). Seeing how Apple has priced the iPad in Europe, the WeTab seems a good alternative for consumers looking for an alternative to the iPad.
