Google may partner with LG to make Android 3.x Nexus tablet

Rumors are suggesting that Google may partner with LG to release a Google Nexus tablet. This device would run a newer and more refined version of Android Honeycomb, perhaps version 3.1.

Just weeks after the sluggish release of the Motorola Xoom tablet, many are wondering when we can expect to see the first mature Android tablet the way Google envisioned it. We think this will happen with the release of Google own Nexus tablet. Much like the Nexus One phone prompted Android hardware vendor to tighten their smartphone game, an official Google tablet should set many standards in the Android tablet market.

Eldar Murtazin’s Mobile-Review (Russian) is stating in a recent post that Google is working on a branded tablet with LG as its hardware partner. Scheduled for release sometime between summer and fall 2011, we will also get the latest version of Android 3.x upon its release.

An other interesting point made in Eldar’s article is that according to him, hardware partners who released tablets on Android 2.x won’t be able to update their devices to a 3.x. This is due to the licensing agreement for Android 3.0 which imposes this limitation. If this is the case, devices like the Samsung Galaxy Tab would be stuck on an outdated version of Google’s mobile OS.
