Since Amazon has announced the $199 Kindle Fire in late september, sales estimates for Amazon’s latest tablet have been increasing. With 95,000 pre-orders the day of the announcement and a steady 20,000 a day since then according to eDataSource, this could be the hottest tablet this Holiday Season.
All the while other analysts are suggesting that these estimates are far too low and that in reality up to 25,000 Fires are being pre-ordered each day.

Peter Rojas of gtdg.com thinks the Kindle Fire will dominate the market this holiday season, ahead of devices like the Roku Internet TV Box and Canon’s PowerShot S100 camera. He cites the price point as an attractive entry point for people who already own an Apple iPad and are in the market for a second tablet. This lower priced tablet is also ideal for consumers who passed on an iPad because it was too expensive.
While the iPad created a new category in the personal computer market, the Kindle Fire has created a new segment in the tablet market. According to Dominic Field of the Boston Consulting Group : ”Our research suggests that $199 is the price point that mass market America was looking for in a tablet,” Field said. “This is the point at which it moves from being a very successful phenomenon for early adopters to the mass consumer market.”
