Samsing Galaxy Tab, weighs half an iPad but $300 more

The tablet market battle isn’t slowing down as Samsung is getting ready to release it’s first tablet. The Galaxy Tab was announced overnight in Sidney.

Samsung’s tablet device will have an Australian price tag of $999 for a 16GB model. This tablet will feature a 1024×600 pixel screen and will be powered by a 1GHz ARM Cortex A8 processor. Running Froyo (Google Android 2.2), the device graphics will be powered by PowerVR SGX540. Weighing only 380 grams, one of the biggest advantages of the Galaxy Tab is that it had only half the weight of the iPad.

Expected to go on sale in Australia in mid-November, the Galaxy Tab joins a number of other tablet devices arriving in the country down under. Thanks to a number of relatively small names on the tablet market like Pioneer Computers and other larger players like Dell, Asus, RIM and Lenovo, Australians are likely to see store shelves filled with tablets by Christmas.
