There is no doubt that simplest jailbreak to ever go public was JailbreakMe.com for the iPhone last year. Although Apple was able to quickly update iOS and patch the exploit which allowed the iPhone to be jailbroken, @comex the developer behind the one-click unlocking solution has been hard at work for the last 3 months trying to jailbreak the iPad 2 and release JailbreakMe 3.0.
There has been a lot of buzz, speculation and anticipation as the iPad 2 does not yet have a working jailbreak. These last few weeks, visitors to jailbreakme.com where greeted with a nice snowy ski hill with a sign that read “PDF”, which lead most to believe that the vulnerability that would be used to jailbreak the iPad 2 would be in Safari’s PDF interpreter. Today, @comex has updated the site… but it still does now offer a new jailbreak. Instead, the site simply shows a message that reads “It’s been far too long” along with commit logs since August 2010.
This update is causing quite a stir among iPad 2 users who have been waiting more than 3 months for a jailbreak. The upcoming launch of JailbreakMe is widely expected to support every iOS device and bellow including the iPad 2. It is still much too early to tell if we will be able to jailbreak iOS 5 on the iPad 2 when it comes out this fall.
What does this update to JailbreakMe mean? Has @comex run out of patience or is this a hint that a jailbreak solution for iPad 2 is getting closer? We certainly hope its the latter.
